Good evening Benjamin and thank you for taking some time to answer the questions in this interview and telling us more about your new book Graven Vengeance.
Q. What was it that made you decide to write a book?
A. For pleasure! I have a lot of stories to tell, I spent some years writing song lyrics and that then progressed into writing books.
Q. How long have you been writing?
A. For years but only recently have I moved over to writing books.
Q. How long did it take you to write this book?
A. It’s only a short story so took a couple of weeks as I write in my spare time.
Q. What do you use to write your books?
A. I use my laptop to write on.
Q. How do you think you’ve evolved as a writer since you’ve started?
A. I’m having to learn about the promotional side of publishing but it is enjoyable.
Q. Is there anything you wished you’d known when you started writing?
A. Not really. It is a challenge and I enjoy challenges.
Q. Do you structure your plots or just go with the flow?
A. I Just go with the flow, I write what I’m thinking then go back and edit afterwards.
Q. How would you describe your writing process?
A. I get lost in another world and escape reality for a while.
Q. What time of the day do you find is best to write?
A. Evenings or weekends when I am home alone.
Q. Where do you draw your inspiration from?
A. I watch a lot of sci-fi movies which also lets you escape for a while.
Q. What draws you to this genre?
A. I enjoy the sci-fi and fantasy world you can create anything and it is believable.
Q. Have you ever tried to write other genres?
A. I am working on another book as well which is more about people and reality.
Q. Which book would compare yours too?
A. A Never Ending Story, Percy Jackson books that are created in another world.
Q. How many books have you written?
A. 3. Although I have only published one so far.
Q. Who designed your front cover?
A. I did. I used a photo I took from an Ice cave in Austria.
Q. Who was the first person you showed your novel too?
A. Someone I work with.
Q. How do you market your books?
A. I’m just starting out so eBookBump is my first taste of marketing!
Q. How do you deal with bad reviews?
A. I Learn from them to improve my writing.
Q. Do you do all your own proofreading and editing?
A. Yes, I do so far but thinking about getting someone else to proofread just for errors.
Q. How and where are you publishing this book?
A. Only on Kindle so far.
Q. What are the main benefits of being an independent author?
A. I can write and release my stories without having to get permission from the big publishers.
Q. What are you reading at the moment?
A. I’m currently reading the Harry Potter series again and looking forward to the new release coming out soon!
Q. What was the first book you ever read?
A. That’s so long ago I can’t remember!
Q. Who is your favourite author/book?
A. It has to be Harry Potter!
Q. What in your opinion is the best book to film adaptation?
A. Harry Potter again!
Q. Where are your favourite places to read?
A. I’d have to say in bed.
Q. What books do you read to your children?
A. I read them the classics like treasure island they have all grown up now.
Q. When you read do you prefer a book or a Kindle/tablet?
A. I prefer reading an actual book.
Q. Any tips for aspiring authors?
A. Just write and enjoy the experience!
